Dental Bridges at Hershey Family Dentistry

Dental bridges are a common restorative treatment offered at Hershey Family Dentistry to replace one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge consists of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, known as abutment teeth, and a false tooth or teeth, called pontics, in between. These pontics can be made from various materials, including porcelain, gold, alloys, or a combination of these materials.

The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves two or more visits to Hershey Family Dentistry. During the first visit, the abutment teeth are prepared by removing a portion of the enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Impressions of the teeth are then taken, which serve as a model for the bridge, pontic, and crowns. A temporary bridge is placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the permanent bridge is being made.

At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed, and the new permanent bridge is checked and adjusted for proper fit. It may take multiple visits to achieve the correct fit, especially for the bite and to ensure the bridge feels comfortable. Once the fit is confirmed, the bridge is permanently cemented into place.

Dental bridges offer several benefits, including restoring the ability to properly chew and speak, maintaining the shape of the face, distributing the forces in the bite properly by replacing missing teeth, and preventing remaining teeth from drifting out of position. They are a durable solution that can last many years with proper care, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups.

I have been going to this practice for over 20 years when Dr. Davis was the dentist. Since his retirement, I have continued with this practice , only having routine cleanings done and was always happy with the hygienist. Today was my first experience with a dental procedure by Dr. Svitko. I had a crown done and was very nervous to have dental work done by anyone other than Dr. Davis. Dr. Svitko was awesome and I felt no discomfort at all. He is gentle, relaxed and professional and makes sure you are comfortable and explains what he is doing. Having dental work is not something I would ever look forward to, but I would be much more relaxed with any future work by Dr. Svitko that would need to be done. His assistant Allie, was great too and helped relieve my nervousness. Would highly recommend this practice!
